BATTICALOA

Batticaloa is in the eastern coast of Sri Lanka  - 314 Km from Colombo.  The    population of 515,707 consists mainly of Tamils, Moors, Sinhalese, Euro-Asian Burghers( specifically Portuguese Burghers and Dutch Burghers) and the indigenous Vedar population.

The Scenic beauty of the Batticaloa is the Lagoons there are three in total: Batticaloa Lagoon,  Valaichchenai Lagoon, and Vakari (Panichchankerni) Lagoon.

Among these lagoon, Batticaloa Lagoon is the largest land covers a 56km long 162 square km area, extending from Pankudaweli in the North and Kalmunai in South.

Batticaloa beaches are sandy and located along a 4 km shoreline in the city and extend through neighboring areas. Kallady beach, is the most popular and serene beachfront location here large numbers of people gather  in the city.

Accommodation:

The Riviera Resort in Batticaloa is 1.5 km from town and located on the lagoon.  This resort is classified as budget accommodation and although basic is clean and tidy and meals are available.
